Pandemic Flu
-
Pandemic flu is virulent human flu that causes a global outbreak,
or pandemic, of serious illness. Because there is little natural
immunity, the disease can spread easily from person to person.
-
A severe
form of avian
influenza ("bird flu") infection in domestic poultry has been
transmitted to humans in other parts of the world, but at this time the
spread of this virus from person to person has been limited.
-
Because all
influenza viruses have the ability to change, scientists are concerned
that the severe form of the "bird flu" virus could one day be able to
infect humans and spread easily from one person to another, thus
creating a pandemic flu.
-
Currently, there
is no pandemic flu.
However, a pandemic flu may come to Volusia County. Don't be caught
unaware and unprepared!

More Information on
Pandemic Flu
In Case of Emergency- ICE
ICE is a tool available to assist
first responders in locating your primary point of contact via cell phone
when you are unable to do so. Here are four easy steps:
-
Open your cell phone address book
-
Enter your emergency contacts’ names and numbers under the notation
“ICE”. For example, if your mother is the emergency contact, write
“ICE-MOM”
-
Let your contacts know that they will be called in an emergency •
Emergency personnel will then be able to quickly call your emergency
contact to obtain vital medical information and make decisions about
your care.
